They highlight different kinds of content on the site mostly. They each have a hover over that gives some description.
Goatmatrix is the original.
Submatrix is 80% less news and politics. 100% more tech.
Gamdev is Games and Game Development.
Culture is Art and Culture
WEFreedom is @JasonCarswell's. It's part of an org he contributes effort to in Canada.
I should be making it so sign-in transfers between each soon. So they'll be easier to hop between and post to. Posting from inside a party will make it show even if it isn't in one of the default subs for that party. So they are all like their own community that also pulls in content from the larger network if it hits one of the major subs for that group.
Why not make a Tech.SubMatrix.net for more tech,
make GoatMatrix.net more political/analysis,
and make SubMatrix.net the neutral all of the above?
I don't do games, but I'd be happy to contribute (arts, entertainment, filmmaking, music) to Culture.SubMatrix.net if it didn't throttle my Goat posts.
I'd also like to see a DIY.SubMatrix.net and/or Maker.SubMatrix.net for all sorts of projects - drones, education, gardening, homesteading, recipes, woodworking, etc. though I suppose that overlaps with culture.
I co-hosted a great WEFreedom party this Thanksgiving weekend at short Bruno's - an 80th birthday party for John Jones.
Q: What's a pirate say on his 80th birthday?
A: Aye matey!
But seriously, despite not being able to get my local WEFreedom folks to leave Facebook, much less anything else technical, I'd like to eventually try LeverMind.SubMatrix.net and Santarchy.SubMatrix.net for different crowds. LeverMind would be for development of the LeverMind Variety Show (from concepts to production to promotion) and Santarchy would be followers of Santa Libertas (featured in the variety show), assuming the show gains a modicum of success.
As host of the WEFreedom.SubMatrix.net party I can edit the white/black lists of topics(subs), users, etc. as well as pin posts and other stuff. Like a moderator of sorts.
Unrelated:
This summer John Jones and his nephew have started a wall-printing company. A 12' vertical plotter that can even print on a brick wall. Great results. Ironically, when I face financial down time (every spare minute I try to spend at the studio), I was going to draft up a Facebook add to hand-paint murals (kids' bedrooms, restaurants, etc.). I'll prolly help with their wall-print efforts - and document their projects for further advertising.
