I don't actually want parental controls.

But I wouldn't mind some access controls - or permissions.

Why?

I will soon be shooting footage for the LeverMind Variety Show, featuring Santa Libertas. I may like to share some footage with some privileged folks with the credentials to access it for feedback. I may like to share some rough cuts with some logged-in Matrix folks to see how it could be improved (perhaps via LeverMind.SubMatrix.net?) And then after I have at least 5 of the first 14 shows finished and uploaded, (along with all of my social media, public relations, and financial stuff set up), I'll start releasing them on all platforms eventually, starting with Matrix sites (in order to invite like-minded voluntaryists (and probably detractors)). If I get financially squashed, imprisoned, or even suicided, the show may yet go on without me (with timed releases).

This is a long slow burn project, so I'm in no hurry, and quite busy with much else.

I also have the Chew.Tube and Volun.Tube domains. Perhaps @LarrySwinger could set up an Invidious instance for the first and PeerTube instance for the latter?

Thoughts?

I'm going to test some existing stuff to assess their state of working. There is a block system for individual users and I know there is a system for creators.

For users, need to test it, the UI comes up when you click the hamburger menu on the top right, then block suggestions. It lets you block keywords, channels, and specific videos. You can also add to that list in the thumbnail menu of each video.

Then I'm not seeing the UI for it in the /manage page for creators. But I know I have some code where a creator can pick video keywords they don't want matching videos to show up in their videos' suggestions. I need to assess that code and figure out where it is in UI or get it there.

Then I just now found another system that is probably too tedious. You can go to /manage and click a button for any video "manage suggestions". There are 4 block buttons, which is probably too complicated. People probably just want to use the most powerful one. You can remove the suggestion between your video and that suggestion, remove the suggestion and block future association, and for both of those options have it apply to all videos in a single click. It's a grid with hover over descriptions.

But I think it may still be possible for a suggestion to happen if you block it, because suggestions are based on history and the user has history outside of your control with associations. But I could make it more "creator authoritative."

Tested the last feature. It works.

Also, gvid is at vid.submatrix.net at the moment. Uploading may be broken for a second.

Sounds like Google+ Circles feature (now defunct):

Google+ Circles allow Google+ users to organize people into groups for sharing across various Google products and services.

Once a circle was created, a Google+ user could share specific private content to only that circle. For example, work-themed content could be shared with only colleagues, and one's friends and family could see more personal content and photos.

Livejournal also has something like that (user lists).

I guess that sounds good, similar to Facebook, but I wasn't thinking about anything as complex.

It seems simpler to start with 3 options for a video:

  1. anyone can see it (default)
  2. limited to anyone logged in (Gvid/Matrix)
  3. private and only accessible to anyone with the direct link
