It's one of those things that feels like it upsets me more than it should. It's not just the kids that are going to get hurt, but anyone who has to deal with being involved. Even when riding "safe", they have issues. I have initially misjudged the speed of a bike going uphill before, and stop at the last second as I realize it's going 20+ mph up the hill instead of slogging along at 5-10 mph like a normal person on a bike would. I've ridden around on them before and notice that other vehicles don't assume the speed to be as high and pull out in front of you more often. You gotta ride them like you are invisible, and be careful. That's something especially difficult to teach children to don't know/get all the traffic laws, or how drivers act/react on the road.

My two random notes.

The one thing I disagreed with was attacking the parent for recording. It's not disrespectful or egging on. And recording cops stops being a form of adding tension to an interaction the second we treat it as normal. Because it should be.

On the concept that peddle bikes can go 25 mph so ebikes should be able to do it in pedestrian areas. First, they don't go 25 mph.. easily. 25+ is down hill plus pushing your gears to max and throwing in some real effort. No one is casually going 25 through pedestrians without full attention on a mechanical bike.

Plus there is a huge weight difference, that makes getting hit at 25 completely different. If I was so irresponsible to run into a ped at that speed, I can jump last minute or push myself to one side to avoid full body on body contact, and my bike might hit you which is feather weight. I'm the weight, not the bike. Vs a 70 pound bike hitting you that can't jump off itself to mitigate the contact.

Last comment. A couple of weeks ago I did a simple distance test. How far can I get due South in 1 hour. The amount of distance I covered is more than you would want a kid to go anyway, by a lot. The video asked, why don't parents just buy their kids normal bikes. My point is that it's not like kids are incapable of physical activity. And it's not like the distance they can go while limited by their own physical effort is over restrictive.
